Our Community: Outdoors
Adventure Oban is a community-led charity brought together by a shared love of the outdoors and the beautiful environment which we live in. We want everyone to enjoy equal access to Oban’s natural playground. We believe spending time in the water, out on the hills and generally outside is one of the best ways to keep our minds, body and community healthy - even more so when we do it together.
Adventure Oban is a charity running as a not for profit company. We’re led by a volunteer board of directors.

Access to Adventure
We know that the barriers to getting outside can take all shapes and forms. From financial constraints to confidence issues to even just being nervous about going out on your own - these can all get in the way of getting started. We intend to break down some of those barriers by bringing the community together around such activities as walking, climbing, cycling, watersports, coasteering, wild swimming, kayaking, abseiling and many more. Most importantly, we want to do this in a fun and informal way for all.
Participation
As part of increasing awareness and access to outdoor activities, we plan to work with the community and partners to actively provide the necessary kit and knowledge. Inspired by the Tool Library movement, we believe Oban is a perfect place to start the first ever Adventure Library. Imagine being able to ‘check out’ a piece of kit like a wetsuit or stand-up paddle board without having to buy your own or knowing if you’re going to like it. On top of that, being able to tap into our amazing outdoor community, glean inspiration on routes and techniques or even just find someone else to go out with.
Stewardship
Oban sits in the heart of a stunning natural environment. As a group, we want to lead our community in looking after the natural assets we enjoy. We want this to look like the organisation of regular litter picks, beach cleans, rockpool tours and lots of other activities designed to increase a shared appreciation and knowledge of our natural environment.
Partnership
As a community-led charity we want to support existing initiatives and businesses - including them in all that we do as much as possible. We recognise there is already so much knowledge and expertise in the local Oban area that can be shared more widely among us. From the wealth of marine science knowledge to the lesser-known walking routes around Oban - our community has so much to offer.
